Org. Setting and Reporting
The duration of an ESCWA internship is normally two months on a full time basis - this may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of six months. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Director of the respective Division.
Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship. ESCWA accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, upon awarding an internship, candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of the conditions of service. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
This internship is located within the Conference Management Services (CMS), Administrative Services Division (ASD) of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The intern reports directly to the Chief, CMS and will be under the overall supervision of the Director of ASD.
The intern will be responsible for carrying out the following:
1 - Translates from and to English and Arabic, subject to revision, documents covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, i.e., political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, scientific and technical.
2 - Conducts the necessary research using all available information sources.
3 - Produces reliable and acceptable draft translations that accurately reflect the substance of the original language text along with accurate and faithful summary records of meetings.
4 - Attends meetings as part of a team, takes notes either directly from statements delivered and subsequently uses the notes to produce draft summary records, subject to revision.
5 - Contributes to the compilation of terms in specific fields for review and validation by senior revisers.
6 - Performs other related duties as required.
