Job Description

Org. Setting and Reporting

The Office of Programme, Planning, Finance and Budget (OPPFB) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC) internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

We are seeking highly motivated individuals who wish to gain professional experience in financial management, financial procedures and practices, and analysis of budgeting, accounting and financial requirements within an international organization in order to supplement their studies.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

-Research and compile historical information relating to mandates, historical expenditure pattern, adopted strategies, economic and social context, as they relate to budget submissions
-Ensure that resource requirements are in line with the applicable rules and regulations and with the mandates of the Security Council / General Assembly -Perform sensitivity and risk
analysis
-Monitoring the implementation of UN budgets;
-Identifying variances between approved budgets and actual expenditures;
-Generate financial information using databases and spreadsheets;

The successful candidate would be able to improve knowledge in the following areas:


-Budgeting in the United Nations;
-Global challenges and related mandates, programmes and resources entrusted to the UN to address them;
-Budget preparation practices in the United Nations;
-Regulatory frameworks governing the Programme Planning and Budgeting in the UN;
-Information technology systems related to budget and finance in the UN;-Intergovernmental process related to the approval of UN budgets;
-Researching and analysing large sets of data and summarize / present it for decision-making purposes.
