Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations (UN) Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response efforts. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention and facilitate sustainable solutions.

This job opening announcement is for two internship opportunities with the Secretariat of the High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement in Geneva. The intern(s), under the general guidance of the Research and Outcomes Section and the Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination Section will perform the duties specified under responsibilities.

This internship shall be based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is being offered for a minimum period of three (3) months, with a possibility of extension up to a maximum period of six (6) months, beginning at a mutually agreed time.

Responsibilities

1.The intern, under the general guidance of the Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination Section, will perform the duties specified below :

i.Support the day-to-day operations of the Stakeholder Engagement;
ii.Assist in systematically analyzing and synthesizing feedback received from various inputs, such as submission and research contributions through consultative processes, including reports from consultations with IDPs and host communities;
iii.Participate in and maintain a record of stakeholder engagement calls (time zone permitting);
iv.Assist in maintaining various engagement trackers;
v.Assist in organizing and preparing for meetings including contributing for PowerPoint presentations, background documents and other relevant material;
vi.Assist in maintaining the Panel’s social media presence and drafting newsletters and other public information products as needed;
vii.Attend various meetings of the High-Level Panel Secretariat and assist in preparing the meeting note;
viii.Lead in recording and summarizing Panel meetings

2.The intern, under the general guidance of the Research and Outcomes Section, will perform the duties specified below:
i.Support the day-to-day operations of the Research and Outcomes Section;
ii.Assist in research on relevant topics for the Research and Outcomes Section;
iii.Support the Research and Outcomes Section on request with writing and analysis, including on specific themes, case studies, or other emerging areas of focus;
iv.Assist in systematically analyzing and synthesizing feedback received from various inputs, such as submission and research contributions through consultative processes, including reports from consultations with IDPs and host communities;
v.Assist in maintaining various research trackers;
vi.Assist in organizing and preparing for meetings including contributing for PowerPoint presentations, background documents and other relevant material;
vii.Attend various meetings of the HLP Secretariat and assist in preparing the meeting note;
viii.Lead in recording and summarizing Panel meetings.
