Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty aiming at the coordinated and concerted conservation and management of migratory species and the ecosystems on which they depend.

The position is located in the UNEP/CMS Secretariat at the Bonn duty station. Under the overall supervision of the Executive Secretary and the day-to-day supervision of the Head, Terrestrial Species Team, the incumbent is responsible for:

 

Responsibilities

1. To assist in coordinating and promoting the implementation of the Central Asian Mammals Initiative (CAMI) and its Programme of Work (POW) ,related documents as well as of relevant MOUs, Single Species Action Plans and other CMS mandates on terrestrial species in Asia.
2. Identify synergies and strengthen cooperation with relevant MEAs, Range States and all other stakeholders and partner organizations.
3. To assist in providing advisory services to CMS Contracting Parties in Asia on the implementation of the Convention.
4. To assist in encouraging Range States to accede to the Convention and engage in CAMI.
5. To contribute to maintaining the CMS contact database.
6. To prepare regular updates on progress made with the implementation of CAMI.
7. To assist in organizing and servicing CMS Signatory meetings and technical workshops in Asia.
8. To coordinate fundraising activities related to the implementation of CMS and CAMI, in close cooperation with the relevant officer in the Secretariat.
9. To perform any other duties as assigned by the Executive Secretary.
